As Christians, we wake up in the morning thanking God for a new day and presenting our prayers and petitions to the Lord. At night we pray for a peaceful rest and for the privilege of a new morning. What happens between these two points of time? – Business or busyness.
Most of us have a calendar of specific tasks to accomplish, and appointments to keep each day, whether in the business world or at home. This helps us to maintain order in our lives. But we can become so busy that life becomes strenuous . When the disciples returned from the task Jesus assigned them, to go out to the villages and preach repentance, cast out demons and heal the sick, many people followed them around. Jesus called the Twelve away. “Come with me to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mark 6:31b). Rest helps us to recharge our bodies and give us time to think. We can use our rest time to meditate, pray, find answers in the Bible, memorize passages, walk and admire nature, to connect with family.
At the age of twelve, Jesus responded to His earthly parents, when he was told that they were anxiously searching for Him: “…Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?” (Luke 2 KJV) . Let us be about the Lord’s business instead of much busyness.
