MPC LENTEN DEVOTIONS

Lent is a time of fasting as we prepare our hearts to celebrate Easter, that holiest of days when Jesus arose from the dead, victorious over death and the grave. Some say Lent replicates Jesus’ fasting in the wilderness for 40 days, when He was tempted by Satan and gained the victory (“in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin”. Hebrews 4:15). In this time of testing, we seek to say no to our human cravings and desires and yes to God. May we daily draw near to God, not with an outwards of religion, but with a sincere heart, seeking God’s presence and help. In this Lenten season, let us regularly retreat to the secret place, where God is. In that secret place, He sees our hearts and hears our prayers, and He promises to reward us (to bless us with His presence and favor) openly. We, too, will gain the victory.
