Day 21 | Self-Reflection

Submitted By, Elder LeNard Christian

Self-reflection is time we set aside to look back at the things that occur in our personal life whether it is a day or a snapshot of an incident that has happened during a specific year. We should attempt to learn from our experiences and feelings.  It is easy for our everyday lives to be driven by  schedules and commitments.  We try to stay on top of every facet of our life but sometimes neglect to take time to sit back and reflect on what we are actually doing or how we are actually feeling. Some of us prefer to engage in mindless activity like random television binge watching or surfing the internet for no particular reason.

Busyness and mindless activities are ways to avoid self-reflection. Self-reflection runs against popular culture.  It requires us to set time aside to be quiet, still, and alone. When this happens, we can begin to prayerfully communicate with God and begin thing about what is going on in our lives.

Ask yourself, Am I satisfied with what I’m doing? or “how did I get so busy to begin with?”  It may help to ask God, “Am I making my relationship with you a priority?”  Once you answer these questions, you may find yourself making more space to spend time with God.

Lenten Prayer

Father God, please forgive us for putting other things before you in our minds and spirits.  During worship, you should be our total focus.  Our own self-reflection brings us to a quiet place with you. It was because of the great sacrifice of your son, that we can have forgiveness of my sins and eternal life.  Thank you for giving us this time to concentrate on you and your sacrifice.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
