Do you remember that feeling you got when someone showed you an act of kindness? It may have lifted your spirits, brighten up your day, or gave you a little extra pep in your step. We all appreciate an act kindness when it is done to us. And by the power of God’s spirit, we can show kindness to others. These expressions of kindness we receive and share with our brothers and sisters in Christ is one the ways we show how much we love them.
During this pandemic, we all have heard of someone or know someone that experienced feelings of anxiety, despair, loneness, and anger. And if we’re being honest with ourselves, we have had those feelings as well. It’s during times such as these we should demonstrate actionable ways of being Christ-like and following his commandment to love each other as Christ loves us. Acts of kindness reveals we have tender hearts and we are not consumed by self-interest, but we are intentionally motivated by God’s love. In this season of Lent show someone an act of kindness: call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, give a co-worker or friend compliment, or treat someone to a cup of tea or coffee. We should spread love and kindness to one another daily because you never know you might need it the most.
Lord, fill my heart with compassion and kindness. Bless me with more capacity to spread love and kindness to my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Let my kindness and love to others shine bright, so that I am able to honor you with my thoughts, words and actions every day. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
